The Heritage Centre The Société historique de Saint-Boniface has a mission to acquire, preserve and promote Franco-Canadian heritage in Western Canada and more specifically in Manitoba.
The Société historique de Saint-Boniface (SHSB) was founded in 1902 during an exploration trip to the Lake of the Woods to search for the site of Fort St. Charles build by La Vérendrye in the 1730s. The SHSB's constitution was adopted in 1903 and it was incorporated by the Province of Manitoba in 1907. It is governed by a nine member Board of Directors who are elected at the general annual meeting of the members. It has the status of a charitable organization and it is registered as such with the Federal Government.
