Presents a brief history of the Métis nation and the events of the 1869-1870 Red River Resistance.
In 1886 the Riel family farm stretched from the Red River to the Seine River. See what flowers and vegitables could be grown in the 1880s.
Restored and refurnished to represent the spring of 1886, this "Red River Frame" house dates from the 1880s, It was here, in the living room of his mother's home, that Louis Riel lay in state for two days in December 1885.

Duration of each activity: 60 minutes
A) Butter and Bannock
Cook your bannock over an open fire. It tastes wonderful with a dollop
of freshly churned butter. While your bannock is cooking, learn a few steps
of the Red River jig and how to play the wooden spoons.
(All age levels)
Imagine weaving 300 multicolored strands of wool without the help of a
loom! Time consuming work indeed, but the final result, the Métis sash,
was breathtaking. Try you hand at weaving a small garter or headband.
(Grade 6 and up)
An enjoyable hour that will include a card game, a running game and a game
of marbles.
(Preschool to Grade 3)
Use an empy spool of thread to create an interesting craft!
(Grade 2 to Grade 4)
Métis beadwork has been admired the world over. The colorful floral
patterns were used to adorn such items as mocassins and guncovers. Students
will be introduced to this truly enjoyable craft!
(grade 6 and up)
