I am a direct decendant of Alexander Henry the Younger through his daughter, ELizabeth Henry.
Elizabeth would have been my great grandmother, Adelaide Marie Lussier (maiden name) Piche, great grandmother.
I would like to confirm a picture that has surfaced on the internet that shows Alexander Henry the Younger, which
the picture states is him. However, I have viewed a website thru Simon Fraser Archives that shows the same picture
on the internet representing Alexander Henry the Younger as being Simon Fraser
at their archives. Somewhere someone has made a mistake.

I am researching the Marion family and I had the pleasure of visiting the centre last May. All of the staff were very helpful especially William Benoit. Unfortunately I found the centre on my last afternoon in Winnipeg. There is a great deal of information available at the centre and it well worth you will to pay a visit if you can. Very interesting site. Thanks. I have been searching for my biological grandmother whose name is Jean Cinq-Mars. She was born in 1921 or 1922 in St. Pierre Manitoba and gave birth to my father, Ronald David Milton (adoptive name) in Kenora, Ontario in 1943. I believe she might have lived in Winnipeg on Bertrand Avenue in or around 1954. Any assistance in locating her or anyone who may know of her would be much appreciated.

très beau site. mon ggggrandpère Francois Desmarais a eu une
famille au manitoba (rivière rouge) au commencement des 1800.
J`aimerais faire contact avec quelqu'un de cette famille,
comme j'aimerais bien rejoindre les familles Desmarais de
l'Ontario et les Desmarais du ouest. Je crois qu'il avais
3 fils et une fille avec une Sauteuse. Je ne l'ait jamais
entendu nommé par nom. I would very much like to know what
happened to her. It is supposed that she died in 1820 and
Francois went back to Quebec, married a second time and
established his second family in Ontario. I am very curious
to know if there is a record of their marriage, her death,
and if any of the descendents have any stories that might have
been handed from generation to generation. Jock Carpenter
wrote a book on the life of Francois ggrandaughter and it is
most interesting. I'm really curious now. any info would

My father, Raynold Willis Riel, was born in Oklee, Minnesota (near Minneapolis/St. Paul) on a farm. His father was Robert Riel. I have always been told we are related to Louis Riel. I believe my grandfather was born in

I spent a couple days in Winnipeg searching out my roots. My GGG grandmother was Indian and married a Riel, hence my name. However, as I am told, somewhere along the line it was inadvertently changed to Reil. My grandfathers first name was Peter, his wife was Nellie (Vincent). His fathers name was Joseph. Whether it was Riel or Reil is unknown. Am unable to find where my grandfather was born. Some documents say Ricmond, Vermont. Other documents say Ricmond,Province of Quebec. My grandmother was born in PQ. Anyone that can clear up the confusion would certainly be appreciated.

I would love to find information on my GGGGgrandmother, Josette, a Cree Indian and the country wife of Jean Baptiste Lagmoniere (they had 3 daughters) from 1800 till 1806 when he married Marie Anne Gaboury. Upon his return to the northwest with his new wife, Josette threatened to poison Marie with a potion she had cooked up for her. I don't know what ever happened to Josette after that, but her daughters all married men from Red River. Her people lived at Pembina around 1806. Thanks for any input at all. I love this site!

My ancestor, Guillaume EDGE is listed in your archives (Fonds Archvevêché de Saint-Boniface; 4.7 B Notice biographique) as a seminarist who arrived at Rivière Rouge in July 1818. This ancestor of mine, did not suceed in becoming a monk. He was a teacher; and by 1826 was married to Judith BENOIT (parents unknown). This couple resided in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., Nova Scotia from about 1826 until their deaths. I'm wondering if any of your archives have further information on Guillaume EDGE; and if Judith BENOIT may have been from the Rivière Rouge area. I'd appreciate any help with this! Regards, Eileen

My husband's family descends from Solomon Hamelin, who was
a Senator in Manitoba around 1861. His lineage goes like
this: GGGfather - Solomon, married to Isabel Vandal, their
son Joseph married to Julie Larence, their son, also named
Joseph married Antoinette Lachance, their son Alexandre
married Corona Laramee, their son Antonin married Edna Blanche

Marie Lagimodiere was a first cousin to Louis Riel jr.
Louis Riel's mother was Julie Lagimodiere who was married
to Louis Riel Sr.
I would appreciate any information on Ephrem Therrien,
who was born in the St. Anne De Plains area of Quebec in
1842 and died in Ste. Amelie, Manitoba in 1929. He was the
father of my grandfather Albert E. Therrien who was married

Bonjour!
Very interesting site. I would be interested in
corresponding with anyone about the French and Metis
who left the Red River area for Minnesota and the US
before 1830, say. These people generally do not show
up on most lists of Metis I have seen, since they left
the area before most of the survivng records (scrip
applications, censuses, church records) were taken.
Yet dozens, even hundreds of them passed Ft. Snelling
in Minnesota on their way to Galena, Illinois, and
points further south, in the 1820s and 1830s. These
could not have all been the Swiss and De Meuron settlers,
and must have included many French and Metis, as well.
I have found an Augustin Cadotte in Galena, Illinois,
in 1830, for example, with a wife and with young Metis
children. He is probably the one mentioned in Alexander
Henry the Younger's journals from 1801-1803, and the one
who was a clerk in the Lower Red River department in 1804.
He gave a deposition in the Semper trial that he had been
trading in the west from 1780-1820's. He probably
went south because of the floods of 1825/26.
Would be interested in talking to anyone who has
looked into these Metis who disappeared early on in the
United States. Thanks!

IL était marié à une indienne Élisabeth. Ses descendants auraient peut-être quitté pour le Minnesota à l'époque de Louis Riel?

Je suis à la recherche des descendants de MOREAU FRANCOIS (époux de Aria LIBAN),
décédé le 12 avril 1934, à Saint-Boniface et enterré à SWAN LAKE, Manitoba le 14 avril 1934.
Mon grand-père a été au Manitoba avant la guerre de 1914 avec 3 frères.Seul Francois
est resté et a fait souche, mais j'ignore où. J'ai pu contacter 67 Moreau du Manitoba,
mais aucun n'en est un descendant.Sites performants qui méritent d'être revisités.

Mon époux arrive de conférences à Winnipeg et me disait qu'il a vu différents exposés sur Louis Riel. Ma famille a une certaine curiosité face à cet homme car mon arriere-grand père Adrien Montsion (né le 3 oct. 1855 et décédé le5 janv.1920) a caché Louis Riel lors d'un séjour en Outaouais pendant 15 jours chez son père Francois-Xavier Montsion (1811-1880) à l'Ange-Gardien près d'Anger,province de Québec.Un article fut publié dans le journal Le Droit,d'Ottawa le 13 Mars 1924 ayant pour titre l'aventure de Louis Riel à Hull et à la Pointe-Gatineau.Cet article est un entrevue avec Adrien Montsion.Par la suite,il y a eu un autre article dans le journal Le Droit le 21 Dec. 1998 par Raymond Ouimet intitulé Le héros Louis Riel caché dans l'Outaouais.J'immagine qu'en communiquant avec le journal Le Droit où les Archives Nationales, vous pourriez avoir des copies de ces articles.Une autre chose qui pourrait possiblement vous intéresser, c'est qu'en visitant le site web Canada 411,j'ai réalisée qu'il y a plusiers Moncion à Winnipeg. J'ai su que le premier ancètre à venir au Canada esr Robert Mossion dit la mouche baptisé le 24 Fevr. 1640 né à Haims,paroisse St-Michel au sud-est de Poitiers ( France ). Son surnom de la mouche venait de la guerre et il faisait partie du fameux régiment de Carignan. Robert Mossion s'est marié avec Anne Tavernier à Notre Dame de Québec le 16 Mai 1666 et est décédé le 24 Nov. 1718 à Québec.Le surnom dit la mouche est toujours resté mais le nom Mossion est devenu Moncionet plus tard il semblerait qu'un archévèque d'Ottawa aurait mentionné à deux frères que le nom Moncion devrait s'écrire comme le Mont-Sion et c'est ainsi qu'un frère garda le nom Moncion et l'autre le changea pour Montsion.Il y a peu de Moncion-Montsion au Canada et il semblerait que nous sommes tous parents. Il est donc fort probable que les Moncion de Winnipeg soient des descendants de Robert Mossion.Voici la liste des enfants de Robert,Flavie 1667, Jean 1669, Charles 1672, Anne 1674, Robert 1676, Félicité 1679.

Joseph Rondeau, voyageur born in Quebec [Lanoraie, 1797] was married to
a part Kutenai Indian woman in 1827 in the Fort Garry area. Their first
two children were born in the region: Josephine, born about 1832 and
Margueritte, born 19 November 1833, in St-Boniface. The family moved
and settled in Little Canada [St.Paul], MN sometime around 1835. I
welcome any input or questions regarding the family. Thanks to Mr.
Fortier for all the help!
